Taking card payments with Stripe

Connect your own Stripe account so customers can pay deposits, balances and invoices by card, with the money going straight to you.

In Quotes, contracts and paymentsUpdated

Customers pay by card from their portal through Stripe. The money goes straight into your own Stripe account: we never hold it.

Connecting Stripe

  1. Go to Settings > Payments.
  2. Click Connect with Stripe.
  3. Sign in to Stripe, or create an account, and approve the connection.
  4. You come back to Settings with Stripe connected.
  5. Turn on Enable online payments and save.

A brand-new Stripe account may not be able to take payments until you have finished Stripe’s own checks. If Settings says charges aren’t enabled yet, finish your details in Stripe, then click Refresh Stripe status.

What customers can pay

  • Deposit and balance from the event’s Make a payment button in the portal
  • Invoices you have issued, from the invoice in the portal

The payment is recorded on the event by itself, and the booking moves on if the deposit confirms it. Customers can’t pay while a contract is waiting to be signed.

Adding a card fee

To pass on card charges, turn on Add an additional fee in Settings > Payments. Give it a label, such as “Card fee”, and choose a percentage or a fixed amount. The fee is shown separately at checkout and recorded as its own transaction, under Merchant Fees. It doesn’t count towards what the customer owes for the booking.

Other ways to pay

Not everyone wants to pay by card. Add Alternative payment instructions, such as your bank details, and they are shown on the portal’s payment page and on unpaid invoices. Use Show first to customers to decide whether card or bank transfer comes first.

Record payments you receive another way by hand. See Recording a payment.

Disconnecting

Click Disconnect Stripe in Settings > Payments. Payments already made stay in your records. If you disconnect from Stripe’s own dashboard instead, Mobile DJ Manager notices and stops offering card payments.

Refunds are made in your Stripe dashboard. Afterwards, record the refund on the event so your figures stay right.
